Nomadic and organic Beekeeping
Bees, together with other wild pollinators, play a fundamental and indispensable role for our planet. They are the ones who pollinate and fertilize many flowers and plants, contributing to the growth of fruit and vegetables (about 70%) which allows us to eat in a healthy and varied way. Furthermore, bees are responsible for the production of around 90% of wild plants, which are fundamental to the functioning of ecosystems and biodiversity.
Protecting bees is therefore essential to preserve the balance of ecosystems and for the survival of the human species. Due to climate change, human action and the loss of natural habitats, in recent years we have been witnessing a drastic decline in pollinators around the world. In this panorama, the work of beekeepers becomes fundamental and we at Avìe are committed every day to protecting and saving bees.
At Avìe we focus on nomadic beekeeping
Our nomadic beekeeping involves the transhumance of the hives based on the season and the availability of nectariferous plants: we move our bees to areas where there are abundant flowers, allowing them to collect the nectar and pollen they need.
We winter in September near home, taking advantage of ivy blooms to complete winter supplies, arriving in spring to produce our dandelion and cherry honey.
During the month of May we move our hives to the Roero area, where Acacia honey and Millefiori honey are produced. At the end of this flowering, at the beginning of June, we move the bees again towards the fresh Val Varaita, for the harvest of mountain honey including chestnut honey and the award-winning Millefiori di Montagna honey.
Practicing nomadic beekeeping guarantees bees great variety and continuity of nectar and pollen sources, improving the health of the colonies and contributing to the conservation of the environment.
Avìe practices IT-BIO-004 Certified Beekeeping
The Company, for the production of honey and the management of the hives, uses an organic method, based on sustainable and environmentally friendly beekeeping practices and which minimizes stress in the bees.
We create a favorable environment for bees, avoiding the use of chemical products.
In our organic beekeeping every process is traceable, every label is authorized by the certifying body and production takes place in our internal laboratory, allowing us to guarantee products appreciated for their high quality and unique flavour.
